I have to admit, my bar of expectations for Congress is so low that it is actually in hell but even I was surprised that they passed The Bill With the Stupid Name. Every Republican hates it and they had to give Murkowski a devil’s bargain to get it done. They know it will kill people, they know it will increase our national debt to levels so staggering that even I, a person who does not care about the national debt, did a double take. Those assholes are very clear on exactly what the bill will do (the parts they read, anyways) and they passed it anyways because, what? A bloated senile orange in an ill-fitting suit told them to?
I will never understand it.
I’m also not focusing on it too much. Because midterms are in 482 days. And Congress can reverse this before most of the provisions even kick in. So I’m focusing on what we have to do to make sure that as many Americans as possible get to the polls next November. Because nothing is forever. Congress can and has reversed their own laws many times. In my favorite instance, they reversed Prohibition. So, yeah, they can reverse this.
Now is not the time to despair, it’s the time to get to work. A year and a half is not a lot of time, voter turnout orgs are raising money and the good ones are working in the community now to lay the groundwork for GOTV next year. At Spread the Vote we’re working on a few things that will hopefully make a big impact next year. But this is not a battle that our poor little orgs can win alone. It is going to take every single person talking to their friends, family, and community, working to get them to the polls, and helping prepare them for election day for us to get as many people out as possible.
SCOTUS isn’t forever. Congress isn’t forever. Nothing they have done cannot be undone. But we have to get to work. We can remember who we are, pull up our boots, and take our country back, or we can sit around being sad and lose it forever.
I know which one I’m choosing. How about you?
SCOTUS is not forever
You learn a lot of things in law school. You learn that you should’ve gone to business school. You learn that the law is basically however the judge feels that day. And you learn that the Supreme Court of the United States makes decisions that last for a time, but not forever.

This week I’m speaking to the energetic and inspirational realtor Aimee Lee Lucas of Knoxville about her incredible life story, how to buy a house, and why single women should think about investing in themselves by investing in real estate.
Super Quick Movie Review
F1 is a perfect summer blockbuster and Brad only gets hotter as he ages. Jurassic World Rebirth is bad but not as bad as the last one and I somehow didn’t hate it? 28 Years Later is hot garbage.
