Good Morning from the Ocean
This newsletter is late because I do not know what day it is. I have been having the trip of a lifetime and it's thrilling, but, of course, I have also been dealing with my unfair share of anti-American sentiment. Last night, after they announced the swift election of the first American pope (woohoo!) I was met with a torrent of abuse at an otherwise extremely lovely dinner. It was difficult for the two angry Brits to make their hatred land though, because both of them make extremely generous livings from American companies and were currently enjoying a luxurious vacation on an American cruise ship. They failed to see the irony, but I certainly did.
It made me think of this week's podcast guest, Abby Reyes. Abby is one of the most courageous people I have had the honor of speaking to. She has been an activist all of her life, fighting for many causes including the rights of indigenous peoples in South America against Big Oil, and when she lost her fiancee and three friends to that fight, she turned her grief into action and resilience. When I think of America, I think of Abby, and the millions like her. I highly recommend Abby's new book, Truth Demands, and our conversation. It will give you the inspiration you need for the next week.
Let’s keep fighting,
Kat
