Can you count to 2000 and have a basic grasp of public relations? You must not be a Democrat.
I honestly do not understand how so many educated and powerful people can be so mind-blowingly stupid but the Democratic Party never fails to snatch an epic fail from the jaws of a win. JUST GIVE PEOPLE MONEY THEY WILL LOVE YOU FOR IT AND THEY ARE STARVING TO DEATH IT’S NOT HARD.
In better news, the Sundance Film Festival went virtual this year and it is glorious. Look out on your streaming networks for Luzzu, Summer of Soul, and a lot of other really incredible films. And if you haven’t seen The 40 Year Old Version yet, it just dropped on Netflix and was a huge hit at Sundance last year, back when we could still freeze our toes off in Park City. Sigh. But well done Sundance for making this fully virtual festival work! Robert Redford will never let you down.
In other things that are happening, Dolly Parton has not yet received the vaccine because she is a goddess but she also needs the vaccine because she is an American hero. This is my new crusade. If anyone wants to go to Dollywood, it’s my first stop when COVID ends.
If you’re looking for a campaign to support, Project ID Action Fund just announced our second endorsement! Sydney Kamlager is running for California State Senate. She’s already an awesome member of the state assembly and will be replacing Holly Mitchell, a glorious human who is now one of the 5 most important women on the planet because she is now a member of the LA County Board of Supervisors. If you don’t know about the LACBOS, it’s a five person board, all women this year!, who manage the 6th largest economy in the world with no oversight except voters. Five women are in charge of a $38 billion annual budget. It’s pretty great, and we worked hard to help Holly win last year. BUT, Holly was THE ONLY BLACK WOMAN IN THE CALIFORNIA STATE SENATE. And now she’s gone. Which means there are none. When Sydney wins there will be one. Which is better than zero, but not by much. So this is a thing we have to work on. You can start by supporting Sydney, preferably by attending our fundraiser for her on the 15th.
In personal news, my marathon training could be going better. The workout side is fine, but unfortunately in the year of our lord 2021 french fries are still delicious. It’s a conundrum. If anyone can recommend a good hypnotist, I would like to have constant cravings for rice cakes and celery please.
Watch:
The Big Short (Rentable on iTunes, Amazon Prime) This week I bought a tiny baby amount of GME stock just to be one with the proletariat, for whom the revolution is not going well. This whole r/wallstreetbets situation has been a wild ride but it did make me rewatch The Big Short and The Wolf of Wall Street which are incredible movies that will give you very little hope for the future. But with Brad and Leo, you can never be down for long.
The Little Things (HBO Max) It is terrible, but we must support Denzel.
Search Party (HBOMax) This show is off the rails from minute one and by Season 4 you’ll think you’re the one who’s been brainwashed. I wasn’t going to finish the series but Russ told me to and he’s always right so I did and I will never be the same.

I was on two podcasts this week. They are good. I am hilarious.
I’m Not A Monster (podcast) YOU GUYS. THIS STORY. I CAN’T. So a white woman from I swear to god like Iowa or somewhere marries a Muslim man and they’re super happy until they’re not and then they take their two children to move to Morrocco except they actually end up joining ISIS in Syria. Remember in like 2017 when that white kid was in a video from ISIS
saying he was going to kill Trump or something? That was her son. So now she’s in prison (NOT EVEN FOR THE ISIS THING) and this podcast follows an absolutely fearless British journalist who probably has a death wish as he FOUND THIS WOMAN IN ISIS and her now four children and is trying to put together the real story. This podcast is BONKERS. Please listen and then call me to discuss. And by call I mean text, I am a millennial.
Read:
October by China Mieville. My favorite living author wrote a book about the 1917 Russian revolution because he is an actual Communist who ran for actual office in actual Britain as an actual Communist. Glorious. And the book is a wonderful retelling of that world changing event.
THE BILLIONAIRES ARE SUFFERING!!! Whatever will we do? Laugh. We will laugh.
