Actually that’s not true, I love the rain against my window. It’s walking and driving in it and being cold that I don’t love. Am I from Seattle? Yes. Do I live in Los Angeles for a reason? Also yes. Last week I was in Arizona and it rained every single day. Now I am back in LA and it has rained every single day. Climate change, I reject thee.
Also unhappy are the dogs, who, at least twice a day, have to decide if they want to poop or stay dry. It is not possible to do both.
The only thing that brightened up the rain was the Alex Murdaugh trial, which hit a crescendo when Alex himself testified conveniently during my drive home from AZ. If you know you know, but if you don’t, I recommend you catch up on all things Murdaugh here, here, and here. There is nothing more fascinating than a good trial and this one is full of drama, intrigue, and, imho, a good amount of perjury.
You may remember that I am widely recognized as the world’s only living Epix subscriber. You don’t even know what Epix is? Exactly. So, imagine my surprise when I learned that I had unwittingly become the world’s only living MGM+ subscriber instead. They changed it right under my nose! I wouldn’t have even known what MGM+ was except for the ten thousand vague and shiny billboards across Los Angeles. I am particularly insulted because, as their only subscriber, they could have made the time to call or send flowers or at least spammed my email. Something. They cannot possibly have anything else to do. Unfortunately, the same shows are still on MGM+. Fortunately, I thought, they also have some great movies now, until I quickly discovered that all of those movies are available everywhere else. I can’t figure out if they are still charging me because I don’t know how Roku works but if they are they shall feel my wrath. RIP Epix. I hardly knew ye. And no one else even tried.
Watch:
The Reluctant Traveler (Apple TV+)- Nothing makes me as happy as a new travel show and this beautifully shot and edited delight features EUGENE LEVY grumpy old manning his way around the world. It is glorious.
Stonehouse (BritBox)- Apparently the UK had a moment when all of their politicians were committing crimes and then faking their own deaths. This show is about the dumbest one.
John Oliver (HBOMax)- That’s not the name of the show but it’s what we all call it. John is back! Thank goodness. I was going through British news snark withdrawal.
Listen:
Ghost Herd (podcast)- Scammers be scammin’, even when that scam is making up hundreds of thousands of fake cattle. It has to be heard to be believed.
Devil Town (podcast)- We are not even close to the end of mining the Satanic Panic for content. Here is another one.
Richard Pryor Live At The Comedy Store (Spotify)- The other day I watched Is This Black Enough For You (Netflix) which would have been better with a different narrator but is a treasure trove of films I will spend the rest of the year trying to watch. But it made me think about Richard Pryor and what a genius he was and so I found him on Spotify and you should to.
