First of all, hello Elise! Thank you for noticing that I did not write a newsletter last week because I forgot because time has no meaning and also for singlehandedly saving Los Angeles County from the brink of disaster on a regular basis.
And HELLO TO THE REST OF YOU. I have big news- I’m half vaxxed!! It sort of happened quickly and I didn’t really even believe it was happening until it did but my stepfather was extremely determined to get me vaccinated and I got the shot in the conference room of a Courtyard Marriott and it’s very exciting. I have already made 4 doctor’s appointments, hair, nail, and facial appointments, and I have planned five vacations.
But first, I am enjoying my last few weeks of maximum laziness. This is a confusing time for introverts. While our extrovert friends have been suffering for the last year, while people with children have been doing 85 jobs, and while our grandparents have been missing us, we have been basking in the bliss of solitude. I haven’t had to go to a party for a year. I haven’t had any awkward social encounters for more than 365 days. I haven’t had to put on clothes and drive to a place and then feel wildly uncomfortable in those clothes and wait just long enough until I can go home and be alone again for one entire glorious year. For someone who fantasizes about retiring to a tiny home in the middle of Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, this year has been glorious. If it weren’t for all of the tragedy surrounding us and how much I miss my grandma I would want this to last forever. IT’S THE ZOOM LIFE FOR ME.
But now it is almost time to return to the world and while I am really really excited to drink a cocktail made for me by someone else and to see the sights beyond my backyard, I’m mourning a little too. It’s hard being an introvert in a country that worships social butterflies. This was our time. And it was marvelous.
So from now until Cinco de Mayo, my personal independence day, I will be on the couch in my holiest sweats, unclean and unbothered, basking in the light of my television.
Thanks for this Russ.
