Well, it’s finally time. This hellish and hopeful election season is almost over. We have one week left to do what we can to save ourselves from Project 2025. Here are a few things you can do this week:
Vote- This may be obvious but it has to be said. Vote early if you can.
Take someone with you to vote- Grab a friend or three, throw them in the car or on the subway, and take them to the polls. Have a mail in ballot? Throw a last minute ballot party so you can all fill out your ballots together and then toss them in a ballot box on your way to the bar to toast to our democracy.
Volunteer with the campaign- Go to kamalaharris.com and make calls or knock on doors.
Volunteer with a local organization- Normally this is when I would have strong words about which organizations to work with but, look, we have a week left until we are taken over by LITERAL NAZIS so who cares just do something with someone somewhere.
Be annoying- Call your friends, your family, your local youths. Make sure they’re voting. Be obnoxious about it so they vote just to shut you up. Be sure to mention that you’ll be really annoying at Thanksgiving if they don’t vote. Tell them about the Nazis. And abortion. And the fact that the Earth is quite literally burning all around us. Are they stuck on one issue? Remind them that EVERY ISSUE IS WORSE UNDER ACTUAL LITERAL NAZIS. Show them a video of the Madison Square Garden rally. After they finish throwing up, slap them with their mail in ballot and glare at them while they fill it out. If they say they’re voting for Jill Stein literally just start throwing things at them.
Now is the time to panic. Hit the big red button and and do something. Do it now.
Choose the Bear- While you’re driving to the polls or in between calls or during your few moments of rest, tune in to this week’s episode of CTB, in which I interview the fantastic Caroline Magennis, author of the new book Harpy, which is the greatest title ever. Also she’s Irish so just tune in to hear her glorious accent and dream of green fields and cold beer.
What to do with yourself in between panicking
Watch:
Hysteria (Peacock)- What if Satan really was behind the Satanic Panic? This show is super fun and nothing like what you think it will be.
Grotesquerie (Hulu/FX)- This show puts the grotesque in grotesquerie. I live for dark and gory and even I have had moments with this show when I’ve just had to pause for a second. I didn’t know Niecy Nash had it in her.
The Woman in White (BritBox)- The book was one of the very first detective novels and the show, made in 1982 so it looks and sounds like it was made in 1682, is thrilling. If you can handle the slow pace and lack of score, you will enjoy this really interesting mini series.
Listen:
Symphony of Lungs- On my deathbed I will regret not having seen Florence + The Machine at the BBC Proms, but at least I can listen to it nonstop, watch it on YouTube, and buy the album.
The Man in the Black Mask (podcast)- Keith Morrison has a new podcast! That’s all you need to know.
Centering the Survivor (podcast)- My dear friend Kenyora, CEO of End Rape on Campus, has a new podcast that you should definitely subscribe to, and then donate to EROC.
