This morning I went to my first in person workout class in two years and it was… weird. And fun. And really hard. Also hot. I forgot how hot hot yoga is. After a year of being banned from working out by not one but two doctors I am now allowed to do yoga and light strength training and slow walks to the beach. Running, the one true joy of my life, is still out. So, although I once did yoga every day for a year to try to like it and never did, I am now a yoga person. And honestly, this morning I was just so happy to be exercising again that I kind of loved it. I also almost passed out because I hadn’t eaten since I got on a plane at noon yesterday and, again, hot yoga is incredibly hot, but tomorrow will be better. One day at a time.
This weekend I was in Shreveport for a wedding that once again proved to me that marriage is pretty much always a bad idea. But I did avoid getting any mosquito bites even though we were on an island in the middle of a swamp in the middle of the night because I SLATHERED myself in repellant every five minutes, so I consider the trip a success. Sometimes you have to support someone when they’re doing something stupid so that when they realize how stupid they are they know you’ll be there for them to murder their husband.
I had a small realization this weekend. I have traveled way too much for most of my adult life and pre-covid I was constantly on the road visiting staff, partners, and volunteers. It was wonderful seeing them but exhausting and after two years of only traveling for fun I have been looking forward to seeing my Delta medallion status go down a level or two. But, this weekend I saw two and a half employees and was able to hang out and brunch and talk to them in person and I realized how much they appreciated it and how much seeing people face to face still matters. So while I will never go back to my previous travel schedule, I am going to have to return to making sure I see my team IRL and not just on Zoom.
But can we please still only do Zoom weddings?
Watch:
The Great Pottery Throwdown Season 5 (HBO)- I don’t have to tell you why.
Julia (HBO)- It’s a delightful series about Julia Child but I think Paul Child was less of a jerk than Niles makes him out to be. Should have stuck with Stanley Tucci.
Russian Doll Season 2 (Netflix)- Natasha Lyonne does it again.
Listen:
The Superhero Complex (podcast)- This is the story of a bunch of people who decided to be real life “superheroes” in Seattle sadly well after I had graduated and moved away. Think Batman without Albert or any money but at least as much ego.
HeidiWorld (podcast)- The story of Heidi Fleiss which no one knows much about beyond the headlines. I will warn you that this is one of those podcast hosts that does not have a voice for radio but if you can plough through the facts are interesting.
Tank and the Bangles- A new and enjoyable find. Spotify them when you need to chillax.
Read:
Off The Edge- The Flat Earther book of your dreams has arrived.
Under The Banner of Heaven- Read about my second favorite Mormon cult before the show starts on Hulu.
