Hi, I’m Kat. I’m hilarious. I can’t help it, I was born this way.
The problem is, in this era of “everything is a trauma response”, people tend to think that if you’re funny it’s because you have a problem. Sometimes, this is true. Is Kevin Hart funny because it’s hard being an extremely short child in the hood? Yes. Often, it is not. Richard Pryor would have been funny no matter where he was born.
In this era of “words hurt more than sticks and stones”, being funny has become a liability. People will tell you you’re not vulnerable, you’re not letting people in, you make jokes to build walls. This is weird. When did making people laugh become a cry for help? When did being the funniest person in the room become anything less than delightful? Idk and I d want to k. I have tried to stop being funny. It’s simply not possible. And that’s ok.
Watch:
Travel Man (Amazon Prime)- If you, like me, could and do watch travel shows endlessly and fell into a deep depression at the end of The Reluctant Traveler (see last week’s newsletter), I have the solution for you. Many episodes of the glibbest travel show on television, waiting for you on Jeff Bezos’ internet. You’re welcome.
Cocaine Bear (Theatres)- Is it good? No. Is it awesome? Yes.
Chicken People (Amazon Prime)- I’ve been pretty public about my obsession with White Crested Chickens, which I like to call Don King Chickens, so this documentary about competitive chickens is right up my alley.
Listen:
The Tylenol Murders (podcast)- Did you know that in the 80s a serial killer murdered like 7 people by PUTTING CYANIDE IN TYLENOL CAPSULES???? Yeah. It happened. And they still don’t know who did it. Soooo… good luck with your next headache.
Elvis (Spotify)- The Oscars are coming and somehow Doja Cat was not nominated for Vegas, which is one of the many things we’ll be protesting if EEAO doesn’t sweep the awards.

Elon Musk’s failures will never not be funny.
I’m just out here trying to get to my designer ice phase.
More RRR stories please.
THE REASON we have so many 'childproof' lids/overwraps/ linings on medications is BECAUSE of the Tylenol killer! Take it from a Chicagoan who was there. You used to be able to open meds relatively easy, maybe a childproof lid. But now the overwrap, the sealed lid, the drama. Even for salad dressing! An entire industry changed overnight for a (sorry) few deaths, while how many died over lax Covid policies?
