Tennessee is Off the List
Along with Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Florida, and Italy
It’s been a week. A week on top of weeks on top of weeks. How I long for precedented times.
One of the things I never shut up about is that I have been to all 50 states. THAT’S RIGHT. ALL 50. Along with watching every episode of M*A*S*H from pilot to series end during law school, it’s my proudest accomplishment. I also did it just in time, since a lot of these states are putting themselves on the no fly list.
Tennessee, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, and Florida have made absolutely unforgivable decisions that have made it impossible for me to justify spending my money there. And it’s too bad, because Tennessee is one of my favorite states and Florida’s Harry Potter World is waaayyyy better than California’s. But as this country falls more and more off the edge of reason, tolerance, and sanity, I have to make some decisions. I actually employ four people in Florida and my organization operates in Tennessee. I really love Miami and Nashville and Knoxville and Coeur d’Alene but when you ban “abortion trafficking”, eject black men from the legislature for standing up for students, or are Florida, at some point, enough if enough. Mississippi has actually brought back Jim Crow and Kansas now allows GENITAL INSPECTION OF CHILDREN. Who are we? I mean, even for America, genital inspection of children is a bit much.
Also, Italy is one of many European countries gliding swiftly back into fascism. Which is unfortunate, because Italy is objectively the best country in Europe. Objectively.
Everyone thought Trump was the worst it could get but I thought it was pretty clear that he was just the canary in the coal mine. We are seeing, right now, how low we can go, and we have to decide individually just what we are prepared to do about it.

Super Mario Bros (theatres)- I knew when I saw this trailer that I would watch this movie and feel bad about it BUT I DO NOT. This was a delight. As someone who really loves her Nintendo Switch and who remembers the glory days of the 90s, this movie was great. Jack Black did not have to go that hard on the Peaches song, but I’m glad he did. It’s been a tough few years. Go watch a fun movie.
Beef (Netflix)- I absolutely hated this show but everyone else on Earth loves it so watch it, I’m probably wrong.
Myth and Mogul: John DeLorean (Netflix)- The only thing I knew about DeLorean before this docu was Back To The Future and that a suspicious number of people in Los Angeles have this car. The story is absolutely wild and also not at all surprising.
