It’s been 10 years since the election and we are still waiting for results. It’s fine. Not important. Just the fates of Los Angeles and Arizona hanging in the balance. NBD.
I assume that every other country in the world has a better, faster way to count ballots than we do but one good thing about this national exercise in patience is… nope, can’t think of anything.
One thing is for sure, I can’t talk crap about Gen Z anymore. I don’t understand them, I’m not sure I like them, I am deeply concerned about the health advice that they are getting on the TikTok, but they saved our butts this election and if there was any chance of us stopping climate change in time for them to take over we would actually possibly be okay. But there isn’t so, well done, last generation!
In TV news, what was the beef with Mexican week??? Everyone needs to lay off of the British Baking Show Open Championship. Those tacos looked delicious. But they do absolutely deserve every bit of slagging that they get for those “s’mores”. My money for the win is on hottie boxer nanny, tell me who you’re cheering for in the comments.
As we glide into the holidays and barrel into yet another year (will they never end?) the movie releases are coming hard and fast. I’m doing my best to keep up. This week’s worst movie was Armageddon Time. Maybe watch it when it’s streaming and you just have absolutely nothing else to do. And even then maybe just rewatch Jurassic Park.
STUFF TO DO WHILE WAITING FOR THE HOLIDAYS
Watch:
Wakanda Forever (theatres until it’s on Disney +)- Everyone other than me absolutely loved this movie. I am obsessed with Angela Basset and her speech at the UN will live in my brain forever. It’s honestly worth it just to watch her in all of her glory. Also the funeral procession (if this is a spoiler read the news more often) is absolutely gorgeous. Wakanda knows how to put on a show, which is especially hilarious because there are literally zero tourists. Other than that, I’m a little meh and I am absolutely livid about the mid-credits scene and will happily tell you why IN ALL CAPS but you should still see it and every Black Panther anything that comes out until the end of time.
The Woman King (theatres)- Apparently this was Badass Black Women On The Silver Screen Week because I also saw The Woman King and wowie wow wow. It’s so good you guys. Run don’t walk. It’s so so so so so good.
Sidney (Apple TV+)- It’s a documentary about Sidney Poitier’s life. What else do you need to know?
Listen:
Wolves Among Us (podcast)- Penn educated dentist is also Philly’s biggest cocaine drug kingpin. Fascinating.
If Books Could Kill (podcast)- Recommended with a caveat. Michael Hobbes has had a lot of podcasts (Maintenance Phase, You’re Wrong About) and I always end up having a problem with them. They’re very “I’m young and white and extremely snarky and extremely close minded in my open mindedness” and it can be annoying. BUT, there is always a lot of good information and this book is taking down the airport books (the first two are Freakanomics and Outliers) that need to be taken down. So listen to it knowing that you may hate the hosts a little bit but still be entertained.
Wakanda Forever Soundtrack- It opens with Rihanna’s beautiful Lift Me Up and then just carries you from there. A really stunning soundtrack.
